Abstract: This case study presents a large scale renewable energy project in Kenya and the risks faced by financial institutions when their clients initially define the project’s area of influence and scope too narrowly, and inadequately provide for a scenario where the land acquisition and resettlement process for associated facilities of the project are led by a quasi-state institution whose resettlement planning and compensation standards fall short of international good practice.
