Unaccountable Accounting: The World Bank’s unreliable climate finance reporting

Abstract: Climate finance is critical to protecting the world's poorest people on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Despite a great need for climate finance, the amount reported each year remains woefully inadequate. To make matters worse, the public is often provided little information on how this climate finance is used and how the amounts claimed are determined. The World Bank, despite being the largest multilateral provider of climate finance, provides little to support its own claims. Without better disclosure practices, the World Bank is asking us to take much on faith, but these funds are too important for that.
