Abstract: This paper reviews developments in the national policy arena in Kenya mainly focusing on 2003 onward in order to better understand the content and dynamics of current narratives on drylands and climate change adaptation in Kenya. The year 2003 is important in this regard, as it was then that the National Alliance Rainbow Coalition (NARC) took over the reins of government after defeating long serving Kenya African National Union (KANU) in the 2002 General Elections, signaling a new commitment to addressing the challenges of the ASALs.
